July Results
After the success of the Air Ambulance Charity Day everyone’s thoughts returned back to the serious matter of competition golf and the second half of the season. Michael Saterlay started July in fine style by winning the Mid-week Medal with a modest but well crafted 71. In the Monthly Medal Mark Dowling posted a 70 that was too good for the rest of the pack. The 4th round of this year’s Stableford Cup produced some steady if not spectacular scoring throughout the field. Dave White kept his nerve to return home with 38 points and a narrow victory. In fact, 38 points was also the winning total in the Mid-week Stableford, good enough for Malcolm Rosborough to claim top spot.
At the end of the month everyone’s attention centred firmly on Graham Jacksons Captain’s Day. As always there was a good turnout for this must play event. With the weather set fair the expectation was that scoring could be low. The optimistic view of birdies galore however was soon a thing of the past as score after score came in, woefully short of par. John Dixon held the clubhouse lead. But even he wasn’t expecting to remain there for long. Playing at the back of the field, steadily going about his task, was Malcolm Rosborough. With a never give up attitude he managed to cobble together enough points to snatch first place from John, just when he might be thinking that a miracle may just happen. It was a popular win and there was much celebrating in the clubhouse. Club Captain Graham handed out the prizes, kindly donated by the Dixon family, before sending everyone home wondering why they hadn’t done better.
